Adding recipes
What happens when my import finishes, and where do my recipes go?
Answer
Here's exactly what happens when you import recipes from another app, a list of links or your browser bookmarks:
1. We read your recipes. Recipe-app files (Paprika, Mela, Evernote, Cookmate and so on) are read in a few seconds. Lists of links and bookmarks files are fetched one by one in the background, which can take a few minutes for a big batch — you'll see a progress bar.
2. You review them. Every recipe we found is listed with a tick box. Untick any you don't want.
3. You tap Save. By default the ticked recipes go into a brand-new cookbook. It's named whatever you type in the "New cookbook name" box, or, if you leave it blank, "Imported from [app] · [month year]" — for example "Imported from Paprika · Jun 2026". Signed in, you can instead pick one of your existing cookbooks from the dropdown next to Save — any recipes already in it are skipped. The page tells you exactly which cookbook before you save.
4. Where to find them. You're taken straight to the new cookbook, and it's always in My Cookbooks on your dashboard. Imported recipes and the new cookbook made for them are private until you choose to share them. To share lots at once, open the cookbook and tap Make all recipes Public (Secret recipes always stay Secret), or change recipes one by one as normal. There's no limit on how many recipes one cookbook can hold.
Email confirmation for long imports: if a list of links or a bookmarks import takes more than a minute, you don't need to wait. You can close the tab:
- Signed in: we save everything into the new cookbook for you and email you a link to it. If the batch is bigger than the room left on the free plan (10 recipes), we don't save it — the email links back to the list so you can pick which to keep, or upgrade.
- Not signed in: type your email in the box that appears while it's working and we'll send you a link back to your recipes. Sign up or sign in from that link to save them.
Recipe-app file imports are quick, so they don't send an email. Your import list stays available for 48 hours, and duplicates already in the same cookbook are skipped.
