Cookbooks & sharing
What is a Cookbook and how do I create one?
Answer
A Cookbook in Recipe Filer is your own digital recipe book — a named collection of recipes with its own cover, colours and sharing settings. Think of it as the family recipe tin or scrapbook, organised and safe online: "Grandma's Baking", "Weeknight Dinners" or "The Lefevre Family Table". Each cookbook can hold up to 250 recipes, and you can keep as many cookbooks as your plan allows (the free Taster plan includes 1 saved cookbook; paid plans have unlimited cookbooks).
How to create a cookbook
1. Sign in and open My Cookbooks (your dashboard).
2. Tap the New cookbook card.
3. Give it a Title (e.g. "Sunday Roasts"), and optionally a Cover subtitle and a short description for yourself.
4. Choose a Privacy setting: Public (listed in the Recipe Filer Directory), All pages shared (private, invite only), Selected pages shared, or All except your 'Secret' recipes.
5. Tap Create cookbook — it opens straight away, ready for recipes.
Adding recipes
Inside the cookbook tap Add recipe, then choose how: scan or photograph a recipe card (handwritten or printed), upload a photo, paste a link from a website, paste text, or type it in by hand. Every recipe lands in a review screen so you can tidy it before saving. Recipes you add without choosing a cookbook go to your Inbox cookbook, and you can copy recipes between cookbooks at any time.
How a cookbook works
- Make it yours: use Customise to upload a cover photo and pick fonts and a colour palette.
- Organise: add tags (e.g. "Desserts", "Christmas") so recipes are easy to filter, and mark private family recipes as Secret so they stay hidden when you share.
- Share: use QR / Share to send a link, QR code or 10-digit view-only code (people can read but not edit), or Invite a friend to add a co-editor who can help add and edit recipes.
- Cook: open any recipe in Kitchen View for big, hands-free steps, voice commands and timers, and send ingredients to your shopping list or meal planner.
- Print: use Prepare for print to make a PDF or order a printed, bound copy of your cookbook — a lovely keepsake or gift.
- Go public: set the cookbook to Public and its recipes can appear in the Recipe Filer Directory for other cooks to discover.
