Importing from Evernote, step by step
Move all your Evernote recipe notes, with photos and tags, into tidy cookbooks in a few minutes.
- 1
Export your notebooks from Evernote
Open the Evernote desktop app (Windows or Mac; the website can't export). In the sidebar choose Notebooks, right-click a notebook (or use its ⋯ menu) and pick Export notebook… Choose the ENEX format (.enex) and save it. Repeat for every notebook you want. Each notebook becomes its own .enex file, named after the notebook.
- 2
Drop the files on the import page
Go to Import → Upload a file and drop one .enex file, or several at once. Each file can be up to 500MB, and photos come along too.
- 3
Choose notebooks and tags
We look through your files for tags before anything uploads. Everything starts ticked for a full import. Untick any notebooks or tags you don't want, plus 'Notes without tags' if you don't want those either.
- 4
Upload and let us read your notes
A progress bar shows the upload. If your connection drops, we retry on our own. If you close the tab, pick the same files again within 24 hours and the upload carries on where it stopped. Big files take a few minutes to read.
- 5
Check for duplicates
In the preview, anything already in your cookbooks is marked 'Already in “…”'. These rows stay ticked, so tap 'Untick all duplicates' if you don't want them twice.
- 6
Choose where they go
With several notebooks, 'One cookbook per notebook' is on. A notebook with the same name as one of your cookbooks joins it, and recipes already there are skipped. Tap 'Make a new cookbook instead' to keep it separate. You can rename any notebook's cookbook first, and a renamed one always becomes a brand-new cookbook. Prefer a single book? Untick the switch, or pick one of your existing cookbooks.
- 7
Save
Tap Save. Your Evernote tags become each cookbook's categories, and recipes stay private until you choose to share them. Signed in and the import takes over a minute? We save it for you and email when it's done. The free plan holds 10 recipes, so bigger imports ask you to pick a plan.
