How to import from Apple Notes
- 1Apple Notes has no export, so copy the text out: open a recipe note, select all (Cmd/Ctrl+A) and copy.
- 2Paste into a plain text file (TextEdit → Format → Make Plain Text, or Notepad) and save it as a .txt. Put several recipes in one file with a line of dashes (------) between them.
- 3Give each recipe a title on the first line and the headings 'Ingredients' and 'Method' so we can split them correctly.
- 4Final step: Come back to this page and click "Open Upload dropzone" on the right (or below on mobile). Pick the file you just exported and we'll parse every recipe automatically.
Frequently asked
Is the import free?
Yes. Importing recipes is always free — even for anonymous visitors. You only need an account to save what you import to your permanent cookbook shelf.
Will my Apple Notes photos come with me?
Yes. Where photos are embedded (Paprika, Mela, Recipe Keeper, Cookmate, Evernote) we extract them from the file. Where they're linked via URL, we fetch and rehost them to our own storage so they never break — even if the source site goes down.
How does deduplication work?
Every import compares title + first ingredient against your existing recipes in the target cookbook. Exact matches are skipped. We show you the skip count when the import finishes so you can spot anything unexpected.
How big an import can I do?
Files up to 500 MB each (photos included) and URL batches up to 500 at a time. Big files upload in pieces with a progress bar, and if your connection drops you can pick the same file again to carry on where it stopped. That's typically enough for a lifetime of home cooking.
