How to import from browser bookmarks

  1. 1Chrome or Edge: open the Bookmark manager (Ctrl/Cmd+Shift+O) → ⋮ menu → Export bookmarks.
  2. 2Safari: File → Export → Bookmarks. Firefox: Bookmarks → Manage bookmarks → Import and Backup → Export Bookmarks to HTML.
  3. 3Final step: On RecipeFiler open Import → Bookmarks and drop the .html file. We pick out recipe links (a folder named 'Recipes' or known recipe sites) and fetch each one.

Frequently asked

Is the import free?

Yes. Importing recipes is always free — even for anonymous visitors. You only need an account to save what you import to your permanent cookbook shelf.

Will my browser bookmarks photos come with me?

Yes. Where photos are embedded (Paprika, Mela, Recipe Keeper, Cookmate, Evernote) we extract them from the file. Where they're linked via URL, we fetch and rehost them to our own storage so they never break — even if the source site goes down.

How does deduplication work?

Every import compares title + first ingredient against your existing recipes in the target cookbook. Exact matches are skipped. We show you the skip count when the import finishes so you can spot anything unexpected.

How big an import can I do?

Files up to 500 MB each (photos included) and URL batches up to 500 at a time. Big files upload in pieces with a progress bar, and if your connection drops you can pick the same file again to carry on where it stopped. That's typically enough for a lifetime of home cooking.
