8 piece white or wholemeal bread — sliced; check label
40 g butter — softened
100 g mature cheddar — sliced or grated; check label
100 g cooked ham slices — check label
1 piece tomato — sliced

- · Large frying pan or griddle

- · Sharp knife for slicing
Instructions
Step by step

Butter one side of each slice of bread.

Place four slices, buttered-side down, on a clean work surface. Layer cheddar, ham and tomato slices on each, then top with the remaining bread slices, buttered-side up.

Heat a large frying pan or griddle over medium heat. Carefully place the sandwiches in the pan (work in batches if needed).

Cook for 3– on the first side, pressing gently with a spatula, until golden and crisp.

Flip and cook for a further 3– until the second side is golden and the cheese has melted.

Remove from the pan, cool for , slice in half and serve warm.
