Shopping list

  • 6 pcs Apples

  • 100 g Sugar

  • 110 9 Wholemeal Flour

  • 110 g Self Raising Flour

  • 50 g Butter

  • 50 g Lard

  • 1 tsp salt

  • cold water to mix

  • 700 g (Bramley) Cooking Apples

  • 25 g Light Muscavado Sugar

  • 0.5 tsp Cinnamon

  • 0.25 tsp Nutmeg

  • 0.25 tsp cloves

  • 2 tbsp water

  • milk and caster sugar for finishing

Instructions

Step by step

  1. 1

Preheat the oven to 200 C and have ready a 24cm pie dish

  2. 2

Peel, core and thinly slice the apples. Add the cinnamon, nutmeg and cloves and the 2 Tbsp of water to a pan

  3. 3

Add the sugar and simmer for until the apples fluff up and soften. Set this aside

  4. 4

Now make the pastry (or use ready-made) and allow this to rest while the apples cool

  5. 5

Once rested make your pie structure. I like a lattice so line the base, add my filling and then cut the top into strips and plait them on in a lattice.

  6. 6

Brush the top with milk and then sprinkle a little castor sugar across the top for a little additional sweet finish to the crust

  7. 7

Bake at 200C. Allow to cool. Perhaps serve with homemade icecream of your choice.
